A high proportion of the UK and global population suffers from long-term chronic illness. For many this is invisible and has a huge impact on everyday life. Many illnesses incorporate pain and/or fatigue; most are challenging to live with and affect our thoughts and emotions to a greater or lesser extent. Mindfulness can be useful for most chronic illnesses, including those with ME, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Long Covid, MS, Lupus, autoimmune conditions, and chronic conditions such as anxiety and depression.
Having struggled through a chronic illness for over 15 years, I have had my own experience of the overwhelm, frustration, the fluctuations, the unpredictability, the setbacks and the secondary anxiety. I have had to deal with other people’s perceptions and lack of understanding, the trade-offs involved in managing lack of energy and symptoms, having to make the decision to change career path, not being able to do everything that I wanted to do as a Mum and navigating relationship stresses.
Mindfulness is not a cure for any chronic illness, but it can play a role in calming the nervous system, in reducing secondary anxiety and, in my opinion, in making the experience of being chronically ill more bearable.
For those who need shorter sessions due to lack of energy, the course can be spread over more shorter sessions for the same price. This would be discussed during the intake call. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch and enquire if you have any queries or concerns.
